Company Crisis 10 Codes

2 December 2007

To all wheelhouse personnel,

In order to prevent the company’s dirty laundry from being aired of the commercial airwaves the following "10" codes have been adopted for crisis situations.

When transmitting over the VHF radio, please state that you are the "Crisis 10" code and use the following designations.

10-1         Engine room fire or fire elsewhere on vessel.

10-2         Need to call traffic deckhand has boat phone.

10-3         Underway with no steering.

10-4         Sounds like CB lingo not used.

10-5         Missing or drunk crewmember.

10-6         Vessel taking on water.

10-           (Silence) Vessel sunk.

10-11       The Captain just mooned the Coast Guard.

10-12       One crew member attempting to stab another.

10-13       Mechanical problems. (bad luck)

10-14       Crew truck with groceries and supplies lost.

10-15       Dog overboard.

10-16       Man overboard. (unintentional)

10-17     Other company vessel(s) getting more attention so I just wanted to call
and whine.

10-18       Tankerman (deckhand) has loaded piston and will not leave the wheelhouse.

10-19       Radar or electronic problems.

10-20       I’m lost . . . where are you?

10-21       TV, VCR and microwave missing.

10-22       Deckhand dropped handheld VHF overboard.

10-23       Out of Incinolet liners.

10-24       Incinolet exploded

10-25       Ship just ran over our barge.

10-26       Our barge just ran over a ship.

10-27       Ran over something, don’t know what.

10-28       Surprise US Coast Guard inspection.

10-29       They want to drug screen me what do I do?

10-30       An hour and a half before lunch.

10-31       Line in wheel.

10-32       Bent wheel or rudder.

10-33       Can’t find wheel or rudder.

10-34       Wheelman refusing to leave fleet without Tiger Sauce and Nutty bars.

10-35       Are the checks ready yet?

10-36       Crewmember bleeding from head and threatening lawsuit.

10-37       Not enough bunks in fleet for out of work deckhands.

10-38       Fuel dock wants cash.

10-39       Deckhand put freshwater in fuel.

10-40       Too much like 10-4 (not used)

10-41       The wheelman has only been up 22 hours and already he’s bitching about sleep.

10-42       Did you fart also?

10-43       Everything seems OK, somebody must be hiding something.

10-44       Dead body floating nearby.

10-45       I need to get off the vessel. My best friend just died and his widow is
  up for grabs.

10-46       Reportable oil spill

10-47       Non reportable oil spill, if you hurry

10-49       Deckhand put fuel in freshwater.

for her toys.

10-53       Crew discharging fire extinguishers on back deck to celebrate holiday.

10-54       No usable fire extinguishers onboard.

10-55       Can not depart because deckhand can’t throw line.

10-56       Broken face wire, bit or cavel.

10-57       Broken heart – she took the truck and all the money while riding over.

10-58       Deckhand found in room with Polish sausage and KY jelly.

10-59       Stand off with sheriff’s department, waiting on Federal Marshals.

10-60       Channelview police want to know where we got all the rigging.

10-79       Disgruntled employee spreading rumors about crew.

10-80       Texas environmental protection agency personal snooping around dock.

10-81       Gunshots heard nearby.

10-82       Guy in suit asking questions about fleet.

10-83       Diver down.

10-84       Diver down too long, no bubbles.

10-85       Damaged government structure.

10-86       Damaged dock.

10-87       Damaged family from no father at home.

10-88       Ethnic personnel out of Community coffee and throwing Folgers overboard.

10-89      The thing on the front of the engine that goes around and has pipes and wires
to it; not the one that’s painted, but the other one, makes noises when there is no water in that box upstairs that has the toilet thing in it.

10-90       The air conditioner quit and its 90 degrees out.

10-92       TV stuck on Spanish speaking channel.

10-93       You wouldn’t it believe it if I told you, come see for yourself.

10-94       Fitness freak crewmember caught underneath barbells in rough seas.

10-95       Strange pungent odor coming from galley.

10-99      Wheelman mistakenly brushed teeth with Preparation H and is unable to call
Houston traffic at next check point.
